CD Duplication (CD-R)

Quality MediaDuplication Overprinting Barcodes & VersionsQC Testing & Data AnalysisDuplicated CDR Quality Testing

Recordable Compact Disc technology during the past three years has made dramatic advances and now offers a reliable and cost effective alternative to CD replication.

Creating reliable CDs for distribution to a wide range of players requires far more than simply 'copying a CD'; they must be duplicated and tested to a standard with specialized equipment in clean environments to ensure their shelf life in the market is sustained.

Offering CD Duplication services throughout Australia and New Zealand , our process is proven and the final product looks great if CD Replication isn't a cost-effective option for you or your organization.

Why choose Media Technology for your CD Duplication?

Media Technology have been duplicating digital media for over 14 years and has large CD Duplication facilities in Auckland (New Zealand) and Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney (Australia) with supporting sales offices in Canberra (Australia) and Wellington (New Zealand).

Our teams have extensive experience in digital media and can assist you with in-house design, packaging, screen printing, bar coding; overprinting, distribution and fulfillment after your CDs have been duplicated. Having on-site quality assurance procedures, clean rooms and dedicated CD-R test equipment ensures that our CD-Rs meet Philips standards for maximum readability and durability.

Why shouldn't I 'burn' or 'duplicate' my own CDs?

Everyone can read their own handwriting (most of the time!), however unless you are an exceptional individual, it is unlikely that everyone else will be able to read it. Similarly, with writing and reading CD-Rs, approximately 5-10% of CDs 'burnt' (duplicated) in basic desktop PC disc drives are unreadable by other machines.

The question is, can you afford to have 10% of your delivered CDs fail with your customers?

When paper documents are published for a wider audience they are typeset to ensure readability. Readability of CD-Rs is assured when they are duplicated in a clean environment, on quality media, with calibrated industrial strength CD duplication equipment...and by using a professional 'Quality Assurance' test procedures. This goes well beyond simple 'copying & verification' (which is akin to being able to read your handwriting!) We test the readability of our CD-Rs and guarantee our work.

Quality Assurance Procedure

Understanding CD Readability

  1. All CDs Have Errors! There is no such thing as an error-free CD. The data pits and dye changes are so small that it is impossible to read a CD without errors. That's why they have data redundancy, interleaving, error detection & correction.
  2. All 'readers' and 'CD writers' combined with media from all the over world is different. Certain combinations of media, writer and readers will NOT work so while they are designed to work together, the origins and quality do matter. Sadly, there are no standards for CD-ROM drives, and often the cheapest drive along with cheap media is the least tolerant. Therefore the same CD-R will be read differently from one drive to another.
  3. The Data Files have Errors: These take the form of logical format violations or flipped bits produced by variations of hardware.

Preventing CD Duplication Errors

  1. The ISO 9660 Image File: CD-R software copies an image, in an ISO 9660 format. Never modify, zip / unzip or manipulate image files destined for transfer to CD-R. All recorders report errors but not all detect all the errors.
  2. The Recording Environment: A cold, hot, dusty, wet or humid room will adversely affect the ability of your hardware to record a readable CD-R. Make sure your power supply is not spiky or subject to other power disruptions. Vibrations over 0.5G within your CD drive will also cause untraceable errors e.g. path noise.
  3. Media, Recorder & the CD-ROM Drive : Find a media that suits your recorder and stick with it. There are less than a dozen real manufacturers of CD-Rs. Suppliers and vendors will brand them therefore take a little time to read about the original manufacturer through its marks. Additionally, not all CD-R drives or CD-ROM drives are created equal. Expect to get what you pay for and while cheaper drives are generally OK for duplicating that quick CD, they are not for distribution.
